The Alabama Forestry Commission was created in its present form in 1969. It is charged with the responsibility of enforcing all laws concerning the preservation of forests, and of maintaining, operating, and controlling all state forests. As part of this responsibility the Forestry Commission is authorized to purchase land to be used in the administration of state forests. (Ala. Code, 9-3-4 [1975]). This series consists of deeds for the purchase of land. Information available in these records includes the location, name and legal description of the original deeds for tower sites, nurseries, and ranger stations purchased by the Forestry Commission and the Department of Conservation; right of way agreements; easements; property leases; and maps.
